Tim Curry’s portrayal of the iconic villain was the source of many nightmares back in the 90s, however, the new film has given the clown an even darker look. Filming began early this summer in Toronto, Ontario and is slated to be released September 8th, 2017.

Warner Bros. originally announced the new adaptation back in 2009, but suffered numerous development challenges including going through multiple directors. The film is now being helmed by Andrés Muschietti who broke into the industry with his horror film ‘Mama.
Bill Skarsgård described the character of Pennywise as being, ‘such an extreme character. Inhumane. It’s beyond even a sociopath, because he’s not even human. He’s not even a clown. I’m playing one of the beings that It creates. It truly enjoys taking the shape of the clown Pennywise, and enjoys the game and the hunt. There’s a childishness to the character, because he’s so closely linked to the kids. The clown is a manifestation of the children’s imaginations, so there’s something child-like about that.’’
